PUBLIC BENEFIT ACTIVITIES

About Feed a Child’s vision is to eradicate poverty in a sustainable manner and to take God’s hope to the nations.

As a National Body we assist other NGO’s not only to be as effective as possible, but also to become sustainable and economically active.
It is estimated that almost 10% of the South African population are children, representing all ethnical groups, living below the poverty line and in circumstances
beyond their control. Feed a Child currently impact the lives of more than 10 000 people throughout South Africa and Africa.

Feed a Child is registered as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) under Section 18A(1)(a) and (1)(b) with the following Public Benefit Activities (PBA’s):

• Food
• Sustainability
• Water
• Education
• Healthcare and Medical Services

FOOD

The consequences of malnutrition are severe and include growth stunting, anaemia, decreased learning capacity and a weakened immune system.

In an attempt to address these adverse challenges, Feed a Child is providing Instant Porridge that contains all the vitamins and minerals to enhance and
maintain an immune system. This instant porridge requires no energy to prepare, it is mixed with water and is available in 5 flavours at a cost of less than
R3 per meal.

It is supplied in 10kg bags (133 adult size meals per bag). One bag is sufficient to provide one meal per day each for a family of four.

Other bulk feeding products i.e. Soya products are also available on request.

SUSTAINABILITY

Most people want to feel good by ‘paying it forward’. Our Charity shops allow for this kind of goodwill. Anyone wanting to take leave of their unwanted, but still useful items, while simultaneously contributing positively to society, can make a huge difference without a hands-on involvement in projects.

Our charity shops will gladly accept any items still in a good condition such as clothing, books, toys, puzzles, electrical items, games, linen, ornaments, kitchenware, and all furniture. Basically, anything and everything that can be used. These items are sorted and then priced very reasonably. The profit generated from the sale of these items is used for the Feed a Child initiatives.

Jumble drives, markets and other events are often initiated to supplement our shops. We would like to invite schools and companies to participate in these drives.

Although our shops provide the opportunity for everyone to purchase quality goods at an affordable price, it definitely gives the less fortunate person more dignity to pay with the little money available to them rather than to beg or steal.

We also encourage entrepreneurs to buy in bulk for resell purposes. Feed a Child has Charity shops in Centurion and Klerksdorp.

Feel free to drop off your welcome donations. Please phone us for arrangements to place a “drop off box” at your premises.

Following the economic slump Feed a Child was obliged to look at alternative ways to secure a sustainable income. Over the past ten years Feed a Child has
developed from a NPO using historical means to generate income to using a variety of online marketing and entrepreneurship programs for a more
sustainable income stream.

Feed a Child selects deserving cases to train and develop them as entrepreneurs, the old “give a man a rod not a fish” principle. Feed a Child encourage our donors to sponsor one or more future entrepreneurs to be developed by us. Interested parties are requested to contact management to discuss the programs and cost involved.

We acknowledge that feeding alone will not suffice, so we have also embarked on longer term solutions by training the communities to start their own vegetable gardens.

Feed a Child has established over 150 vegetable gardens and many entrepreneurs were trained in the process.

Poverty does not necessarily drive negative social behaviour e.g. theft, prostitution, drugs etc. Hunger does. Poverty can be the catalyst that causes malnutrition and hunger. Our ultimate goal for the community is serving the community through the sustainable programs whereby the scale of poverty and malnutrition will be
diminished. The result being that the community is uplifted and the balance is restored.

No child should suffer from the ramifications of malnutrition/hunger. This can be altered by changing the ecosystem. Therefore, we encourage communities to
participate in these life changing initiatives.

Feed a Child also hosts various events throughout the year in order to raise funds for this worthy cause. We invite you to participate and help make a difference.
Feel free to contact us should you want to consider Feed a Child as a beneficiary of your events.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Education and training form part of Feed a Child’s daily activities. As an invention to help eradicate poverty and uplift the skills of community members, Feed a Child is currently embarking on implementing various programs.

ABOUT HEALTHCARE & MEDICAL SERVICES

Funds raised from individuals/companies help to provide specialized healthcare services, e.g. a person with no or limited financial support/orphans with a critical medical condition can receive the services of general practitioners or specialists i.e. orthopaedic services etc.
